My name is Trey Xavier, and I’ve been fascinated by music theory since I was 16. I’m going to be your guide to the world of theory in this Fast Track we’re calling Theory for Producers!
I am the editor-in-chief of GearGods.net, a hub for metal musicians. I’m an alumni of Berklee College of Music and a graduate of Sonoma State University, where I studied composition, theory, ear training, jazz, and guitar performance. I’ve played guitar for over 20 years and I care very deeply about making sure the music you make is great and makes people want to move. I also have a YouTube series called Trey’s Theory Corner where I teach music theory in the simplest possible terms.
A well-crafted song requires an attention to musical relationships, and without at least some knowledge of theory and musical concepts, you will probably struggle to get the arrangement right. I’m gonna give you the tools to quickly get great arrangements and harmonies to make your already great songs shine, and solve musical problems that you encounter as a producer.
When you’re done with this Fast Track, you’ll have a better ear for harmony, a better understanding of the relationships between notes, and a refreshed perspective on how music works. All this will make you a better (and more employable) producer.
